Massage Therapy for People Who Want to Know What’s Going On With Their Body

For the last 15 years, LSM Clinic (formerly Leyton Sports Massage) have been not only helping people feel better, but understand why they’re having musculo-skeletal problems and what they can do about it. 

With two locations in Waltham Forest (one at CRATE St James St, one in Leyton’s Mainyard Studios) they see a lot of neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, people training for marathons, triathlons, recovering from injuries, and just managing life. 

‘Our goal is to help people enjoy their favourite activities and live their lives as close to pain-free as possible,’ says Katherine Creighton Crook, the clinic’s founder and principal therapist. ‘Basically we want to get rid of unnecessary pain in the world.’ 

And the way they do that is by turning the model of ‘lay down and relax’ massage on its head. 

Clients at the clinic can expect to have posture and movement assessments and re-testing during the session so the therapist can get a clear picture of which muscles have which effect. Then, clients are given self-care to take home with them, building on one exercise at a time to avoid overwhelm. 

‘We want soft tissue therapy to be a choice – you can either take the tools we give you and manage on your own, or you can incorporate a regular session into your self-management plan. We know everyone has their own budget and time restrictions so we try to have a variety of things for everyone.’

To that end, the clinic runs a free posture clinic most months, alternating between their Walthamstow and Leyton locations, offers a limited number of low-cost slots with each therapist, and has a YouTube channel and a number of free resources on their website to help clients manage their muscles.
