Discover the Walthamstow Way

One Trail, Three Neighbourhoods, Endless Experiences

Walthamstow has always been a place of creativity, character and community. Now, a new initiative is bringing some of its most exciting destinations together in one welcoming route: The Walthamstow Way.

Connecting the historic charm of Walthamstow Village, the creative energy of Ravenswood Industrial Estate, and the independent spirit of Wood Street, the Walthamstow Way invites residents and visitors alike to explore some of East London’s most distinctive neighbourhoods. According to the Walthamstow Way website, the trail links “three neighbourhoods, one big Walthamstow welcome” and showcases independent shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants, makers and local attractions across the area.

The initiative has been supported through the Mayor of London’s Summer Streets Fund, which encourages vibrant outdoor experiences in London’s town centres. As part of Waltham Forest’s successful bid, new removable outdoor seating has been introduced in key locations including Troubridge Square and Orford Road, creating more opportunities to relax, dine and socialise outdoors. In addition, new outdoor lighting has been installed at Ravenswood Industrial Estate, helping to enhance the area’s growing evening economy and visitor experience.

Three Destinations, One Journey

Each neighbourhood along the Walthamstow Way has its own unique identity.

Walthamstow Village

As the historic heart of the borough, Walthamstow Village combines centuries of heritage with a thriving independent business scene. Visitors can wander along the pedestrian-friendly Orford Road, discover colourful shops and cafés, enjoy outdoor dining, and uncover hidden courtyards and historic buildings that tell the story of one of East London’s most distinctive neighbourhoods.

Ravenswood Industrial Estate

A short walk away, Ravenswood Industrial Estate offers something completely different. Home to independent makers, craft breweries, a cider producer, a gin distillery, designers and creative businesses, the estate has evolved into one of Walthamstow’s most exciting destinations. It’s also home to the famous God’s Own Junkyard, whose dazzling collection of neon artwork attracts visitors from across London and beyond. The estate comes alive particularly at weekends, when businesses throw open their doors for food, drink and entertainment.

Wood Street

Meanwhile, Wood Street celebrates Walthamstow’s creative heritage and diverse cultural scene. The area is known for its bustling indoor market, independent retailers, vintage treasures, street art and international food offerings. Visitors can explore colourful murals, browse unique market stalls and enjoy a vibrant programme of live music and events across local venues and pubs.

A Business-Led Vision

What makes the Walthamstow Way particularly special is that it has been shaped by the local businesses that call these neighbourhoods home. Working together, they have created a destination that encourages exploration, supports independent enterprise and celebrates everything that makes Walthamstow unique.

The trail serves as both a practical guide and a celebration of local identity, making it easier than ever for people to discover hidden gems, meet local makers and experience the area’s thriving hospitality scene.

Join the Celebration

To mark the official launch of the Walthamstow Way, businesses and community partners are coming together for a weekend celebration featuring activities, live entertainment, walking tours and opportunities to explore the route. The launch shines a spotlight on the newly improved public spaces, enhanced lighting and outdoor seating that are helping to make Walthamstow an even more welcoming destination for residents and visitors.

Whether you’re searching for your next favourite coffee spot, a hidden creative studio, an evening out with friends or simply a new way to explore the borough, the Walthamstow Way offers the perfect excuse to take a fresh look at everything Walthamstow has to offer.

This takes place on Saturday 19 September and Sunday 20 September.
